How would you describe The Post Supply?
The Post Supply is a home goods and lifestyle store based in Portland, Maine and selling online worldwide. Our store is a platform for artists, makers, authors, and brands that are not sold everywhere else, that have a special ethos, particular POV, a story, a perfectly imperfect way of doing things, or an incredible scent, smell or taste that emphasizes living beautifully everyday.
Is there an object, detail, or corner that tells a story?
Every detail of our physical space imbues a sense of warmth and inspiration from our custom-built shelving, to our shaker-inspired pegs, to the hand drawn illustrations on our walls - we have cultivated what we hope feels like an inspiring, artful environment that brings beauty to the shopping experience.
1-3 seasonal items you are loving right now
We love the wool, silk, and mohair balaclavas made by Pien Barendregt. Pien represents so much of what lights us up about objects. Very much handmade. Very much limited quantities. Very much The Post Supply! We're also obsessed with our new Omad face masks, inspired by traditional Chinese medicine and the perfect antidote to dry winter skin. Forever, always sipping our Quiet Botanist or Flowerhead Tea out of our Dominique Ostuni Mugs as well.
What’s a small daily ritual that’s part of running things day to day?
The owners of The Post Supply live on different coasts so checking in with each other, as business partners and also as best friends is key to our success and enjoyment of running our business. Our communication and connection feels so important to ensuring we are keeping this business on track and remaining on the same page while also nurturing our friendship.
What’s the most rewarding part of being a store owner?
The people we have been connected with through the business is absolutely the most rewarding part - from the makers and artisans whose goods we sell or who we have hosted at one of our pop ups, to our customers (many of whom have become dear friends or at the very least - beloved friendly faces!), and all our collaborators who fill the shop with life. We believe a store is also a collection of your community and we love ours!
Why do you think it’s important for people to shop small?
Small businesses have an ability to connect with their customer in a way that can be incredibly difficult to achieve at scale. You can feel confident that we are listening to our customers and constantly thinking about what is best for our community because we are on the sales floor with them, we are reading every customer email, we are managing the DMs and comments on Instagram. Having a small business means a direct line of communication and connection and that feels increasingly important in today's world.

The Post Supply assortment is curated through a combination of intuition and careful consideration of many intersecting factors: where and how the product is made, who is making it, how it fits in with our larger vision, and whether customers have been requesting it. Thought is also given to what each product will add to someone’s life — Will it solve a problem? Provide beauty and inspiration? Make someone feel cared for? Every product chosen is one we’d want in our own home or life.
